Bonds: what it is, what moves it and how to study it
What it is, what moves it, when it moves and how to practice it on demo before thinking about a live account.
What it is
The market in a sentence
CFDs on government bonds of the main economies.
Instruments HFM lists
- Euro Bund
- UK Gilt
- US 10-year Treasury Note
Examples taken from HFM's specification tables on October 26, 2026. The instruments available depend on the account type.
See the Bonds conditions on hfm.com →What to study
Bonds teach the relationship between interest rates and price: when one rises, the other falls.
Be clear on this
A market for advanced students. Contracts expire and orders at the open may be temporarily rejected.
What moves it
Three forces worth watching
Rate expectations
When central banks are expected to raise rates, existing bonds lose value; when they are expected to cut, they gain it.
Inflation
Inflation higher than expected tends to put pressure on bond prices.
Risk aversion
In financial stress, some money looks for the relative safety of government bonds.
Sessions
When it moves
They follow the hours of the contract they track and have daily breaks. Check each bond's conditions on hfm.com.
The exact hours of each instrument are published by HFM and can change.

How to practice it on demo
Compare on one chart the US 10-year yield with the US500 index for a week and write down the relationship you see.

Open a demo account
It is free and uses no real money. Request it with the button on this page.
- 02
Mark levels on the daily chart
Support and resistance from the last few weeks. That way you arrive at each session with a map.
- 03
Calculate the size before trading
Use Arco's calculators to set how much you risk per trade; on demo it counts too.
- 04
Write everything down for a week
What you saw, what you did and what happened. The journal is what gets studied, not the balance.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Bonds
Why does the price fall when the rate rises?
Because a new bond pays more, so the old one, which pays less, is worth less if you want to sell it.
Is it a market to start with?
No. It is for students whose risk foundations are already solid.
